At Illuminate, we believe that nose surgery shouldn’t take away from what makes you “you” and that diversity should be celebrated. Double Board Certified San Jose & Palo Alto facial plastic surgeon and rhinoplasty expert, Dr. Brittany Leader, specializes in helping patients of all backgrounds to realize enhanced beauty while preserving their cultural identities. With Dr. Leader’s background in complex revision rhinoplasty and acute attention to detail, you can feel confident in knowing that, with her at the helm of an ethnic rhinoplasty San Jose and Palo Alto patients of hers will have their individual goals met and natural features well-preserved.
Rhinoplasty is the medical term for nose surgery. The goal is to change the shape or size of your nose. Rhinoplasty can alter your genetic nasal characteristics or repair an injury.
While historically, rhinoplasty has followed the facial shapes and aesthetic preferences of Caucasians, the goal of ethnic rhinoplasty is to enhance the aesthetic beauty and function of a non-Caucasian person's nose. It also requires a doctor who appreciates the unique nasal characteristics and facial shapes of each ethnic group.
You are most likely a candidate for our San Jose or Palo Alto ethnic rhinoplasty if you want to change the shape of your nose but value a natural look in keeping with your ethnicity. Rhinoplasty is not recommended for children unless it is necessary to repair an injury or improve breathing. Cosmetic rhinoplasty should be delayed until the patient’s nose has reached its full size.
After reviewing your complete medical history, Dr. Leader will carefully examine your nose. Some basic lab work will likely be required. If you smoke, you will need to quit several weeks prior to your surgery. You will also be directed to suspend the use of any substance that may promote bleeding for a period before and after your procedure.
Ethnic rhinoplasty in particular, requires advanced surgical skills, years of experience, and an eye for human aesthetics and cultural beauty. Dr. Leader has performed many successful procedures and takes a holistic and even artistic approach, considering the balance of each area of your face. Drs. David Boudreault and Brittany Leader at Illuminate Plastic Surgery conduct full-face assessments before determining the optimal surgical plan for better facial balance and natural-looking results. Each procedure is unique because each patient is unique. Every surgical plan is personalized to each patient’s goals and anatomy to ensure the best plan before the surgery. We listen to your needs and will answer questions and respond to your concerns from your initial consultation through aftercare post-surgery.
At Illuminate, our surgeons use the latest advancements in rhinoplasty to achieve natural-looking results with an artful eye and respect for anatomy. Your Palo Alto or San Jose ethnic rhinoplasty may involve:
Our goal is to provide the best ethnic rhinoplasty Palo Alto & San Jose has to offer. Dr. Brittany Leader personalizes every surgical plan for rhinoplasty to each unique person’s facial anatomy and goals. Rhinoplasty is generally an outpatient surgery. For minor changes, Dr. Leader may take cartilage from your ear or from deep inside your nose. If more extensive revision is required, cartilage from your ribs or other parts of your body may be used. After reshaping your nose according to your goals, Dr. Leader will put your nasal skin and tissue back into place and close your incisions. You’ll typically be cleared to go home about one hour following surgery and recovery from anesthesia. Make sure you have arranged for a driver post-procedure and a responsible caretaker with you for at least 24 hours post-procedure to ensure your safety and comfort.
You will have some swelling and bruising for a couple of weeks, along with some minor drainage and bleeding. Typically, your dressings, splints, and stitches can be removed within a week. You can go back to work or school after a week, but avoid strenuous physical activity for up to a month.
Small changes in your nose structure can make a big difference in your appearance and self-esteem. At Illuminate, we listen to you and care about achieving your desired results.

Like any surgical procedure, ethnic rhinoplasty comes with risks including:
If your rhinoplasty is medically necessary, there is a possibility that your insurance may provide coverage for some or all of the expenses. However, if your rhinoplasty is solely for cosmetic purposes, insurance coverage will not be applicable.
The cost of ethnic rhinoplasty typically falls within the range of $21,000 to $30,000, taking into account the specific complexities of each case. This estimate encompasses all associated fees, such as anesthesia, facility fees, and any necessary follow-up appointments. Since rhinoplasties are generally performed for cosmetic purposes, insurance coverage is typically not available. To provide flexibility in payment, many patients choose to finance the procedure through CareCredit and Alphaeon, allowing them to spread out the cost in smaller monthly installments.
