The idea of toning the body through electronic muscle stimulation is not a new one, but the technology to do it effectively has not been available until now. Emsculpt utilizes High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic (HIFEM) energy that stimulates muscles beyond what you would be able to achieve even with a personal trainer. A 30-minute EmSculpt® session produces nearly 20,000 muscle contractions. Repeated contractions without rest stresses the muscles triggering rapid changes at the cellular level that make them grow bigger and stronger. To supply energy for so many muscle contractions, neighboring fat cells break down, via a process called lipolysis and releases fatty acids. Fat cells are damaged to the point where they die and are then naturally eliminated by the body.
Choosing between Emsculpt and CoolSculpting really comes down to what you’re aiming for—toned muscles, fat reduction, or both. Emsculpt uses high-intensity electromagnetic energy to contract muscles thousands of times per session (think of it like a supercharged workout for your abs or thighs). It’s a favorite for those wanting to add muscle definition and strength. CoolSculpting, on the other hand, doesn’t touch your muscles; it’s all about fat reduction. Using precise cooling to target stubborn fat, it freezes and eliminates fat cells, which your body gradually flushes away. Both treatments are non-invasive with minimal downtime, but if you’re looking for toned muscles in addition to fat loss, Emsculpt is your best bet.
EmSculpt treatments are performed lying down. Paddle-like applicators are applied to the body and the 30-minute treatment begins. The feeling can be a bit strange — like you’re in the middle of an intense workout, but it is not painful. In fact, most people find the feeling so unusual that they laugh during the process. These contractions will cycle through different phases. Some are rapid and light while others are slow and powerful. As the 30 minutes continue, your provider will gradually increase the intensity.
During treatment, the device flushes out toxins and lactic acid that has been produced. So, even though you’ve done the equivalent of 20,000 situps patients do not feel like they have done 20,000 situps afterward. There is literally zero downtime after our Palo Alto Emsculpt treatment.
After Emsculpt Palo Alto patients experience tighter, more toned muscles as well as fat loss.* In clinical studies, patients saw a 19% reduction of fat and a 16% increase in muscle mass.* Further, patients who originally were not happy with the shape of their buttocks reported an 85% improvement after four treatments, noting that their butt felt more lifted and firm.*
You should expect to see positive results from the procedure within 2-4 weeks after your last treatment.
After Emsculpt, a little aftercare can go a long way in keeping those toned results.
Routine physical activity, a balanced diet, and staying hydrated are key for extending your sculpted look. Emsculpt’s effects can be boosted even further with maintenance sessions every three to six months. And don’t worry—keeping up with your results doesn’t mean hours in the gym. Simple, consistent movement and a few resistance exercises can work wonders, helping you stay strong, toned, and ready to show off your results.

To date, no side effects have been reported from EmSculpt treatment. However, you should not receive this treatment if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic devices, have heart issues, seizures or other medical conditions that could make the device’s electromagnetic field dangerous for you.
You should avoid EmSculpt if you have any metal such as a copper IUD or hip implant near the treated area as energy from the device can heat up metal parts or move them out of position.
