Peel the layers, and reveal a more vibrant you. VI Peels are effective and yield long-lasting results for your face and body. Illuminate Med Spa offers VI peels performed by highly trained and results-oriented aesthetic providers to patients in Palo Alto and San Jose. Read on to learn more about VI Peels.
The VI Peel for the face combines specialized acids, vitamins, and minerals to remove the damaged outer layers of your skin and regenerate new proteins and healing properties, including collagen. At our med spas in San Jose & Palo Alto VI peels help to refine pores, texture, fine lines, and wrinkles and produce fast, dynamic, and safe results. These peels can be customized to your unique skin goals to stimulate collagen and cellular turnover, correct skin pigment and discoloration, suppress acne-causing oil production and improve acne scarring.
In a short amount of time VI peels can be a game-changer for your skin’s health and appearance. The VI Peel for the body is made with a different formula and targeted toward correcting skin concerns like body acne, scars, stretch marks, pigmentation, and fine lines. It has great anti-aging properties, as it stimulates collagen and increases cellular turnover to reveal smoother, more radiant skin in just one treatment.
A VI peel provides deep chemical exfoliation to reveal healthier, clearer, and brighter-looking skin. Ingredients can be a customized combination of:
Each of these ingredients, particularly when combined, improve skin texture and tone, rejuvenate and replenish the skin, and may help prevent further damage.
The safety and effectiveness of your VI skin peel is determined by the training, skill, and experience of your provider. Our licensed medical aestheticians at Illuminate are Certified VI Peel Specialists and have performed over one thousand VI peels to date. Our Palo Alto or San Jose med spa team will listen to your concerns and formulate a VI peel that's right for you.
There are five additional types of VI peels Palo Alto & San Jose offers, beyond the original VI peel. These peels are designed to address your more specific concerns.
It’s important to avoid excessive sun exposure for a few weeks both before and after your treatment and wear sunscreen at all times. During your consultation and before your VI peel in San Jose or Palo Alto, your provider will recommend appropriate at-home skin-prep products to achieve optimal results. Arrive at your treatment appointment with a clean face, and we’re ready to peel!
Your treatment will take about 45 minutes. At around or after three days from the procedure, your skin will begin the peeling process.
You’ll receive a post-procedure care kit that will have your cleanser, post-treatment cream, and sunscreen. Many San Jose & Palo Alto VI Peel patients end up loving the sunscreen that comes with the kit, and the post-treatment cream is very soothing and nourishing while the skin is healing. It is critical not to pick, pull, or peel at the skin while it is shedding. Your provider will instruct you on how to manage detached skin and the importance of letting exfoliated skin fall off naturally. Avoid direct sunlight while your skin is peeling, and apply liberal amounts of high SPF sunscreen when going outside.
After one peel, you should expect to see dramatic improvements. Fine lines and dark spots will be reduced immediately following the completion of your treatment. Following a series of peels, expect a noticeable improvement in age spots, hyperpigmentation, acne, and acne scars.

VI peel contains numbing agents to lessen what may be a mild burning sensation. Most patients rate their discomfort level between two and three on a ten-point scale during the treatment.
This will depend on how many treatments you receive based on your skincare goals. We’re happy to walk through a schedule of costs before beginning any procedure.
We typically recommend a series of at least three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart, with Hydrafacials (also available at Illuminate) scheduled in between to enhance your results.
You may experience some itching, redness, and/or swelling following your treatment, but any discomfort will instantly be soothed and diminished by following the post-care protocol and using the products in the post-procedure care kit that we provide. All procedures of this type carry some risk of infection or allergic reaction. This will be discussed with you during your consultation.
VI peels are cleared for safely treating all skin types and skin tones.
Unfortunately, chemical peels of this type are not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Have a consultation with our practitioner to discuss treatments that are suitable during pregnancy.
Because this is considered a cosmetic procedure, your insurance will not cover any costs.
